About this coloring page
A happy boy holds up a colorful fish-shaped kite as if it were swimming through the air. His clothes and the scaly fish make a detailed festival page.
Carp streamers in Japan are often flown with one fish for each person in the family. Carp were chosen because they swim strongly upstream, a hopeful wish for children to grow up brave and strong. How many fish would your own family need? The scales on this kite are small, so older kids can give each row a different color while younger ones color the boy's shirt.
Fun factIn Japan, families fly carp-shaped streamers called koinobori for Children's Day on May 5.
- Color ideaColor the fish kite in bright orange and blue scales against the boy's red shirt.
- After coloringMake a paper fish streamer and wave it in the wind.
